Compare and Contrast Review

InfoWars is an alternative news media outlet run by Alex Jones.  Secondly, Fox News is a conservative media outlet created by Rupert Murdoch and is run by former NBC executive Roger Ailes.  InfoWars Alex Jones is considered a “conspiracy theorist” by many and they label him as such, even on Wikipedia; Fox News is a major conservative news media outlet.

However, the two media forms are alike because they are both media/news outlets.  Also, they cover the most up-to-date news as well as they have older pod casts, news videos, and articles with commentaries with older broadcasts available online and on YouTube.  Both InfoWars and Fox News have their own YouTube channel; they both have a blue layout on each of their websites.  They both have advertisements on their channel, although one’s on TV commercials and another’s online which is on after their videos (InfoWars video).  Both media news outlets feature online articles and videos to be read and watched; Both the news outlets reports on a fair amount of detail on each of the news stories as they happen, although InfoWars is more "Christian-biased" (a quote by me) and there's nothing wrong with that because they're just sharing their faith and beliefs with everyone so they can better understand them as a whole.  Also, InfoWars seems to get more detail or more detailed into their reports, like how on a YouTube video: Alex Jones raided the Google Headquarters

Aside from that, I have learned much about this assignment: both about InfoWars run by Alex Jones and Fox News which is a conservative media outlet created by Rupert Murdoch and is run by former NBC executive Roger Ailes.  I have learned more about who Alex Jones is and what he stands for; I have also learned of how InfoWars at times reports what other media outlets such as Fox News don’t, also concerning the 9/11 attacks.  I learned how both companies handle their advertising and about how I or anyone else could enter their company outlet though being an advertiser through them and help or endorse Fox News or InfoWars.  I learned aside from this assignment before that InfoWars actually stands for Information Wars and that their slogan is “There is a war on your mind.  Become, fight, and join the resistance” or something like that and that Fox News’s slogan is “Fair and Balanced” news, 24/7, referring to 24 hours in a day, 7 days a week which is pretty much 365 days a year, all year round up-to-date coverage on the news.  This compare and contrasting between InfoWars (Information Wars) and Fox News have indeed truly taught me much and they have many similarities and differences from their websites to their YouTube videos.  One’s run on-air on T.V., radio, and online while the other is just radio and online.

I have enjoyed the assignment which I just did comparing and contrasting InfoWars (Information Wars) and Fox News.  I enjoyed comparing and contrasting the two news and for InfoWars: the alternative news media outlet.  I learned more about the InfoWars founder: Alex Jones and more about him; I learned who owns Fox News and a little bit about who owns the company that owns the media group which is above Fox News which is News Corp which is billionaire Ruppert Murdock.  I learned that Fox News is technically under the name of 21st Century Fox.  This is good to know because it teaches me more about who runs everything and the media listened to by some in the world.

3rd Media Review

This is Charlie Fink and I'm doing my 3rd media review on the topic of the DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks on both the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live servers.  This event or attack on the PSN and XBOX LIVE servers was on December 25, 2014.  I was on the server in the evening/nighttime and it said I couldn't log on; I thought it (the server) was acting up, but then I did some research on it and found out that there was a DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack and as I stated in my previous blog, A distributed Denial of Service Attack is or "occurs when multiple systems flood the bandwidth or resources of a targeted system, usually one or more web servers. Such an attack is often the result of multiple compromised systems (for example a botnet) flooding the targeted system with traffic." which crashes the server and makes it more difficult for someone or a company or corporation to put the material back online and with more material.  From: https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=Distributed+Denial+of+service or www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=Distributed+Denial+of+service I got the definition.

These threats by Lizard Squad went so far even as to threatening to kill the family or families of Sony PlayStation employees.  I just read that someone was arrested because of this incident and their relation to it.  From January 16th, 2015: http://venturebeat.com/2015/01/16/18-year-old-arrested-over-playstation-and-xbox-ddos-attacks/ states that an 18 year old from the UK or United Kingdom (in other words: England) was guilty of a cyber crime and has "seized electronic and digital devices in connection with a recent spate of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks aimed at Sony and Microsoft" according to the article.  It (the article) states that "A DDoS attack essentially overwhelms the target with a deluge of random data, causing the network to crash. In this case, the effect of the attack meant that PlayStation and Xbox gamers couldn’t access online services."  "Law enforcement arrested him on suspicion of the following crimes:
  • Unauthorized access to computer material contrary to Section 1 of Computer Misuse Act 1990.
  • Unauthorized access with intent to commit further offences contrary to Section 2 of Computer Misuse Act 1990.
  • Threats to kill contrary to Section 16 of Offenses Against the Person Act 1861."
Also, Anonymous has waged war against Lizard Squad to further their purpose of "Internet Activism" by me searching "Anonymous's purpose" on Google.  More information about Internet Activism can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_activism

In conclusion, I have learned many things from this assignment.  I learned about how to tweak internet searches to come up with better search results.  I also learned more information about so-called activist groups online and their intent.  I also learned what cyber crimes may be and what constitutes terrorism in some instances other than the traditional sense which is to instill a spirit of fear within people.  In summary, I learn these and much more through these 3 media reviews that I have done so far.

2nd Media Review

Today I will cover the topic or news story on Anonymous which vows to unhood 1,000 ku klux klan members.  I first heard about the story on October 28th, 2015 when I saw it on an MSN story when I was on my Windows 10 start panel doing a search on Windows 10 with Cortana, an AI (Artificial Intelligence) for Windows 10 when I was about to search for something.  In news.discovery.com Anonymous said it plans to release the names of up to 1,000 Ku Klux Klan members and other groups affiliated with them.  It's a war with Hackers vs. Haters one site said that I was on or something of the sort.  Anonymous is a "hacktivist" group while the KKK or Ku Klux Klan is a white supremecist group.  Anonymous said it has been watching the group for so long and revealing the people behind the hoods is “the right course of action.”

Anonymous is of a person not identified by name; of unknown name or so the dictionary states.  Their members wear a Guy Fawkes mask from the late 20th century, exemplified by the mask worn by V in the comic book series V for Vendetta, who fights against a fictional fascist English state.  Fawkes is now "a major icon in modern political culture", whose face has become "a potentially powerful instrument for the articulation of postmodern anarchism" according to a historian: Lewis Call.  Guy Fawkes is sometimes toasted as "the last man to enter Parliament with honest intentions" according to Wikipedia's article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Fawkes at the bottom of the Legacy section.  According to http://www.yourdictionary.com/ku-klux-klan#mztxP8G7TsVcqtj9.99 the Ku Klux Klan is a secret society of white men founded in the S States after the Civil War to reestablish and maintain white supremacy.  Also, according to this article: the Ku Klux Klan is
a secret society organized in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1915 as “the Invisible Empire, Knights of the Ku Klux Klan”: it is anti-black, anti-Semitic, anti-Catholic, etc., and uses terrorist methods.  I heard that the number of their members are diminishing nowadays.

Back to the main story, this story is relevant because Anonymous is "widely known for targeting groups for beliefs the hackers disagree with." according to http://news.discovery.com/tech/gear-and-gadgets/anonymous-vows-to-unhood-ku-klux-klan-151029.htm which is true because they took down the PlayStation Network before with a DDOS attack or a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack which occurs when multiple systems flood the bandwidth or resources of a targeted system, usually one or more web servers. Such an attack is often the result of multiple compromised systems (for example a botnet) flooding the targeted system with traffic.  No, wait, this was Lizard Squad, not Anonymous, but still the previous information about DDOS was according to Google on the first result on searching for just "DDOS Attack" and the text that first appears.  Anonymous calls the release of the names of over 1,000 Ku Klux Klan members "Operation KKK" and it seems like from the picture online at http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2015/10/29/anonymous-intends-to-unveil-names-up-to-1000-ku-klux-klan-members.html that they even have an ""Operation KKK"" Twitter account.  There are over 5,000 members of the Ku Klux Klan or KKK nationwide across the United States.

In summary, I have learned much about this 2nd media review assignment; I learned more about how people can do good for the people and the public by fighting against some activist hate groups online.  I learned of how to do research better and dig deeper to find out more information, such as to find or that I found out that the Lizard Squad was responsible for the DDOS attack on the Gaming servers earlier in 2015 and in possible late 2014.  I learned how to better utilize the Google search engine and to do better searches to dig on information on an online server.  Finally, I learned to find out better news articles online on a subject, although I can/could/should work on finding out information to find previous articles that I found online.

1st Media Review

I don't think it was a good and beneficial event that happened when the Amtrak train derailed on the way to New York City on May 15th, 2015.  I saw the event on Fox News at my house when the coverage began and when it happened. It said that on May 12th, 2015, an Amtrak train on its way to New York City from Washington D.C. derailed.  The train traveled at 102 miles per hour (mph) and was in a 50 miles per hour zone of curved tracks when it derailed.  Some of the passengers had to be taken out or extricated from the crashed cars of the train; many passengers and local residents helped first responders during the rescue operation.  The train track in question at the time of the news report was not equipped with ATC, also known as Automatic Train Control which was operational for years on the southbound track of the curve at which the derailment occurred, and which also would have limited the train's speed entering the curve. Shortly after the derailment, Amtrak completed that ATC installation on the northbound track.

The news report also referred back to the 1943 derailment which was on the same curved section of tracks that killed 79 and injured 117.  It turned out that the 2015 Philadelphia crash was the deadliest crash on the North East corridor since 1987, when 16 people died in a crash near Baltimore.  Federal authorities believe that the derailment was most likely accidental and investigated minor damage to the windshield of the train which may have been caused by a projectile, but did not penetrate the glass.  Officials said the incident might have been prevented by PTC or Positive Train Control, a computerized speed-limiting system that was operational elsewhere on the Northeast Corridor, but whose activation at the crash site had been delayed due to regulatory requirements.  This is where the question about ATC or Automatic Train Control came into question.  It was later found out that 8 people were killed, over 200 injured, 11 critically.  The derailment disrupted train service for several days according to Wikipedia.  It was a pretty bad event that was unfortunate, but accidents happen and can happen, so they need to be accounted for when they do, so that they won't happen as much in the future, with its preventative innovation.

From:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Philadelphia_train_derailment

I learned that people should do their best to prevent unfortunate circumstances that arise from issues that aren't taken care of at the time, as per say: the ATC or Automatic Train control issue which could have been installed and could have prevented this train track derailment.  I learned more about how the media is reported and how they disclose facts that are found then and later from the incident or incidents that happened at the time of the news broadcast.  I learned how the people are accounted for that were involved in a public accident, like this train derailment/crash by the authorities and police.  I learned how the media gets into the details of an event and the cause, etc.  I also learned what they (the authorities) do from preventing a bad event from happening in the future or to minimize it as much as possible.  In conclusion, I learned these many various details from this assignment and topic choice that I had on this first media review of mine.

Introduction to me for the class: Charlie Fink

I'm Charlie Fink, I'm 24 years old (almost 25, I will turn 25 on October the 5th of this year: 2015), and I'm studying Graphic Design, then video game design in college at FCC; I'm single.  My nickname is Tony Fink because my middle name is Anthony and for me: Tony is short for Charlie Anthony; thus the name: Tony Fink that I have for a nickname.  I just started working at the Royal Farms in Urbana, MD.  I met a 21, almost 22 year old girl at my work named Danielle Eastlake who is the sister of a girl that went to my high school that I graduated with.  My hobbies are playing video games, watching YouTube, watching reruns of the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, hanging out with friends, and being on Facebook.  I also use Google+ and have almost 14,000 views on my profile. I'm into gaming, anime, drawing, etc. and such things.  I'm also into drawing, have an interest in art and love spending time with my family. I'm going to college while working my two jobs just about every other day for college and church.  I have a big interest in the original design for Tails from the Sonic the Hedgehog series; I like how he has two tails, can fly, and looks very (seemingly) innocent in the series, including the games (and he's cute).  I don't like how they changed him (Tails) from the old-fashioned brown and cream color with dark brown eyes to yellow and blue eyes.  The orange color in the first few Sonic the Hedgehog games I don't mind, though.  I'm a fun person to be with did (probably) the most popular kid in my high school, am a great hard-worker at my job/jobs, and am a cool, understanding person to be with and hang around with in my free time.  I hope everyone passes this class by putting their effort in it as well because failing a class at one's best is an inconvenience, especially when it's at their field of work and study or a similar career path, unless they're misguided in that they're studying what they're good at.  I want to do logos and prints in Graphic Design, also known as (a.k.a.) Computer Graphics and after that I want to become a video game designer (it was always my dream and aspiration to be one); it's my dream job.
